DENTAL CARE FOR YOUR CHILD

Paediatric (Children) Dentistry

Bringing your child to the dentist for the first time can be a very stressful situation for many parents. Many of us have fears of the dentist ourselves and not sure how our children will respond. We really try our best to create a calm and friendly environment ensuring that your child is given the best start to their dental journey.

There is no right age for when their first visit should be, but we recommend that you bring your children with you to your regular examination at Bunbury Family Dental from about the age of 18 months so that they can familiarise themselves with the surroundings. Depending on their response to the environment we will attempt to do an examination but always allowing them to be in control.

This is very important as we believe your child’s first visit should not be due to pain. We advise 6 monthly examinations for children as this allows us to create a relationship with your child and ensure we diagnose potential problems early and treat them quickly. Regular reviews also allow us to monitor your child's facial growth closely and identify any potential skeletal or dental problems that may require orthodontic treatment.

Unfortunately, one of the most difficult things to manage in children is the ever-present danger of trauma due to accidents. This can often lead to a very stressful situations and once again if your child has been to the dentist previously it will help to know that he is going to a familiar place.

As all parents know most of these accidents frequently happen outside business hours and that is where we always strive to offer a service to our patients where possible. We have an emergency number which can be contacted for advice and where needed we will come in and treat your child as needed.

We have numerous models and aids which we can use to show you and your child how to maintain the best possible oral health ensuring we decrease their risk of decay. This includes dietary advise.
